On September 21, 2021, a major milestone in the development of The Plaza Coral Gables was achieved. 

Executives from the Loews Hotel and Agave Holdings hosted an event to celebrate the Topping Off of the Loews Hotel tower currently under construction and slated for completion in the Fall of 2022. 

The copper cupola that “caps” the highest point in our entire project, was hoisted to its permanent home. A link to the video of this special event can be seen below. It was a symbolic achievement that represented years of planning and hard work by all involved.  Leadership from the City of Coral Gables, the design team, and our construction partners from Coastal Construction, were all there to enjoy this special event.

While we took a moment to celebrate this milestone, we are once again completely focused on the next 12 months ahead.    Our plan is to have all elements of the project ready for occupancy by the end of next year. The South office tower is already topped off, and we are working on the exterior elements to close-up the envelope.  Our central parcel which consists of two levels of commercial space and 5 levels of parking garage, will be completed by the end of this year.  The 39 apartments on Galiano that line the east side of our project, will be delivered in North, Central and South phases. The first phase will be available for occupancy in early 2022. 

We have had tremendous success in our leasing efforts. The Reserve, our residential tower is 95% occupied and our North office tower is filling up quickly. Multiple tenant improvements are ongoing with several slated for Certificate of Occupancy this year. The leasing efforts on the commercial / retail spaces are also exceeding our expectations. Our first restaurant “Fogo de Chao” will obtain its construction permit soon and should be open to the public early next year. “Pinstripes” and “Sweet Paris” will start their improvements early next year. A long list of other reputable tenants will be announced soon.

We have a lot of work to get done in a short period of time, but we are very confident that The Plaza Coral Gables is going to be a huge success and a destination that will be enjoyed by many for years to come.

Neighborhood Streetscape Improvements


The design and permitting process for all elements east of Ponce has been completed. After a long and tedious process, the Civil drawings that were submitted to the Miami Dade county traffic engineering department last year have been finally approved. We have finalized and signed the design-build contract with Superior Landscaping Inc., for the East area improvements and Superior Landscaping is now submitting the completed drawings and documents to the City of Coral Gables for a permit.  Construction can finally start.

Now that the design is finalized and with the contractor on-board, the schedule for the improvements is as follows:

• AREA #1 – East side – permit issuance by City – May 2020, Construction start in June 2020 and to be completed by December 2020
• AREA #2 – South Side  (Santander+ San Sebastian East of Ponce)- Construction start in December 2020, to be completed by May 2021

We are excited to finally be able to start the neighborhood streetscape upgrades in the area and remain committed to getting this project completed within the projected schedule.


The West area remains on-hold as we await the final direction from The City of Coral Gables (that may come after further meetings with the area neighbors).

Neighborhood Streetscape Improvements

A great deal of effort has been made to push the Neighborhood Streetscape Improvements Project forward since receiving a preliminary “green light” from the City in May of 2018. A detailed survey of the right of way was conducted. Civil, landscape, electrical, and structural drawings have been prepared by our design-build partners and have been presented to the City and County agencies.

WEST AREA IMPROVEMENTS (Catalonia Av, Malaga Av., and Santander Av.) by LeJeune:

Momentum was lost at the beginning of this year when it was brought to the City and our attention that some of the residents of the West area Improvements were not pleased with the proposed improvements. Subsequent meetings were held with the City and a few of the concerned residents to discuss the issues and consider the options. A viable solution to make everyone happy was not found. In order to keep the process moving forward, a decision was made by the City to put the West section of the project on hold indefinitely.

EAST AREA IMPROVEMENTS (East Neighborhood between Ponce de Leon and Douglas):

The design and permitting process for all elements east of Ponce has continued. The Civil drawings were submitted to the Miami Dade county traffic engineering department for a “dry run review” in February of this year. The comments that were made by the County have since been addressed and a revised set of documents will be submitted to the County the week of 10/21/19. Approval by the County is required in order to proceed with the permitting process. The County approval is expected by the end of November. Once the permit is approved by the County, and the City of Coral Gables approves the scope and City permit construction can finally start. If the City approves this by the end of this year, a realistic start date for the construction of the improvements is January/February of 2020 with an estimated duration of 37 weeks.

We are committed to getting this project started and will do everything within our power to implement the vision that the City has for this area of “The City Beautiful”.

Development Update: Construction Of North Parcel Is Full Steam Ahead

Construction work on the North Parcel at the site of The Plaza Coral Gables continues to progress as work is being completed on the 3rd floor.  General contractor, Coastal-Tishman Construction, is building the parcel’s office and retail space as well as a residential tower.

In the heart of the City Beautiful, The Plaza Coral Gables brings a luxury 4.5-star hotel, two Class ‘A’ Office Towers, luxurious residential units and lofts, casual and fine dining establishments, selected retail & commercial establishments, entertainment options and outdoor activations throughout the project; while offering two City of Coral Gables trolley stops connecting with the Metrorail and the rest of Coral Gables Business District.

Blanca Commercial Real Estate is handling leases of office space at The Plaza Coral Gables, and Koniver Stern Group is handling retail leases.

Development Update: July 2018

After years of planning and pre-construction efforts, we are officially “Going Vertical”. We received the first Master Building permit from the City of Coral Gables on July 10th.  This is a major milestone which allows all aspects of construction in the North parcel to proceed.  Foundation work and underground utility work will continue, immediately followed by columns and elevated slabs.  Coastal-Tishman has been selected as the General Contractor for the first stage.  The structure for the signature class “A” office building and residential tower will start to rise up from the ground in coming months.  The very aggressive construction schedule for the North Parcel is only 21 months.  Final design and permitting for subsequent stages of the project are also advancing quickly.  By year’s end, we will commence construction in the Central Parcel and the South Parcel will follow. Our entire team is extremely proud to be a part of history in the making.
